One solution can be peel and stick tiles which can be applied over wallpaper without much prep work just follow the product s directions. When it means tiling over plaster and stripping the wallpaper could damage the plaster it ll be a judgment call. Some installers prefer to flatback each tile with the flat edge of the trowel before applying the tile to the combed thin set. You do not have to allot work hours to pull up the existing tiles which means the tiling work can be finished much faster and all without the big mess.

No matter whether you are tiling over tiles on a floor or a wall your new tiles will need a stable base. Others prefer to use a larger notched trowel 1 2 x 1 2 in to apply the thin set. If the old tiles are in bad shape the new tiles won t adhere correctly. If the wall is being re tiled due to damp issues or any structural concerns then it wouldn t be advisable to tile over the existing tiles.

Mix degreasing cleaner with water in a bucket using a dilution recommended. One advantage of doing this is that it is time saving. And it lasts for 20 years. Tiling over an uneven surface will give you less than stellar results so level out any globs of dried grout with a sander and secure loose tiles with fresh tile adhesive before beginning the project.
